Kitchen Pantry – Get It Right

If you are lucky enough to have a custom kitchen installed, you should ensure that you have a well thought out kitchen pantry. By having an organised pantry, will save you both time and money by eliminating unnecessary trips to the shops and save you from doubling up on items you do not need.

Your Pantry - How to get it Right.

Before making the final decision on the custom kitchen pantry you think is right for you, there are a couple of issues that you need to solve first; what will the pantry used for? For example, do you plan to store only food products? Secondly, how much space do you have to work with? If you only have minimal space, it might be worth researching other kitchen ideas that will stop your kitchen from looking cluttered.

It is becoming more and more common for those with smaller kitchens (and growing families!) to store food in a closest or cupboard that is in close proximity to the kitchen. This might be a good idea to store your canned goods or larger bottles etc. If you like to buy your food in bulk, a separate cupboard would easily conceal those big containers. There are so many neat kitchen ideas on the internet these days; you will be able to find the answer to your storage needs.

It is important to keep your all of your kitchen clean, but especially your fridge and pantry. When it comes time to clean your pantry, this is when it pays off to have a well organised and well lit pantry.

Sometimes doing it alone is better!

Well, maybe when it comes to rearranging your kitchen pantry! A good idea is to organise your pantry when you are alone, so you can concentrate without any distractions. If you are the main grocery buyer and the main cook, you will know which products you use more often than not and will want these items at eye level.

If you have children in the house it may be a good idea to put any sweets and foods higher in fat, higher up in your pantry. This will stop your kids (and even you) from ruining dinner and it is so much better for their health.

It is also well known that you should not put any cleaning products in the same pantry as food products, as a child may mistake them for being edible or fumes from cleaning products may enter the food packages and soil them.

You should put your heavier foods (things like cordial and soft drink bottles and canned goods) lower in your kitchen pantry, this will eliminate any excessive heavy lifting and if by chance the shelf gives way, your entire pantry (and its contents) will not be ruined.

Don't be Uncomfortable with your Kitchen Pantry.

Most people tend to want their kitchen pantry to be disguised and out of sight. But a well thought out pantry is nothing to ashamed of. You should be proud that you can find what you need, when you need it. Just think, how good would it be to no longer raid the cupboards to find that darn mixed spice?

Spend Time Now, Reap Rewards Later.

If you take the time in the beginning to set up your kitchen pantry, you will save so much hassle later on. You will know that all of your cereals are in one place, spices in another. You will save so much time if you can organise your pantry efficiently, especially when it is time to put away the groceries. It comes as no surprise that many spend lots of money for a custom kitchen to fix the pantry!
